The perfect car for your special day...
A vintage car is an elegant and timeless addition to any special day, however making the right choice for you can be difficult so we have put together a Wedding guide with general advice on picking your dream car for your special day.
At Hooters we tailor-make all packages to suit your requirements, but to give you an idea of costings:
Our basic rate is $560.00 for up to 2 hours for our standard fleet and $240.00 per hour thereafter. This includes your chauffeur in full period clothing.
All vehicles seat 3 to 4 passengers plus driver.
All prices start from our base in Onekawa and include return to base.
Ribbon in a colour of your choice is complimentary, if you have a specific colour or shade in mind, we have an excellent swatch book at our Napier based showroom.
Please note that any signage you may see on the cars are magnetic and always removed for weddings.
Please contact us for a full quotation or to discuss options.
Our Commitment to You.
Once deposit is received, the vehicle is exclusively booked in for your wedding and will not be hired out for anything else that day ensuring the vehicle is in pristine condition for your big day.
Your chauffeur is a professional and will be there to meet, greet and open the doors for you, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your big day.
All of our chauffeurs wear uniforms for weddings; it's your choice between Classic Art Deco and traditional 1920's Chauffeurs Suit.
With our extensive fleet, we always have a contingency plan so we guarantee to always get you to your wedding on time!
Your chauffeur has a wealth of knowledge, if you need a last minute photo location or want to lose the crowd for a while to enjoy some quality time, not a bother, your driver will be happy to assist.

What we require...
On booking we require a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure each vehicle. The remainder is due one month before the event. We will of course contact you at this time to confirm final logistics.
We are happy to hold vehicles for a short period; however a booking is not confirmed until the deposit is received.
All bookings are subject to our terms and conditions which can be found here.
We will work closely with you to ensure we have timings correct in advance but we understand that delays can happen, so overtime is at a flat rate of $100 per 30 minutes. This must be paid to the driver in cash at the time of the extension.
Please note that we do not accept payment after the event. We suggest you nominate a 'driver liaison' such as the best man or brides father who can organise any overtime that may be required.
Rest assured your chauffeur will not leave until they have checked with the nominated liaison.
Make sure your driver has all the information; directions, pick up and drop off points, the right entrance to ceremony and reception, as you will want to make a grand entrance.
Also ensure that they are aware of any changes, photo locations or stops along the way.
Couples often underestimate how long a journey can take in a vintage car. Depending on your choice of vehicle, in certain circumstances, a vintage ride could take double the time of a modern car.
Remember to allow plenty of time for photographs; for example has your photographer allowed time for a stop en-route?
The beauty of vintage cars is that the pictures can look fantastically timeless and you will certainly want plenty of pictures.
Helpful Tip - Make sure your driver and photographer both have mobiles and each others numbers; that way you won't lose each other on the way to each photo location.
Colours are cruical to your photos so be critical with the car colour, interior and exterior, the location and back drop to pictures and of course consideration to the rest of the bridal party.
Some helpful advice for picking your dream wedding car...
When thinking of a bridal car you need to take into consideration your locations, timings, photos and of course the weather...
The car should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to departure time. This allows for introductions, photographs, last minute checks and seating; it can for instance take as much as 5-10 minutes for the bride and bridal party to be seated.
Also you should allow upon arrival at the venue approximately 15 minutes for alighting from vehicles and posing with them for photographs. Making generous allowances for time prevents you from having to rush from door to door.
The dreaded has happened and the heavens open; is the car an open-top? If so, is there a contingency plan? Does it carry umbrellas? What colour? They may have to appear in photographs.
Most vintage cars do not have heaters, if not is there a blanket?
If it's a hot day, do they carry sun screen? Do remember that you could be spending a lot of time in and near the car for photos. Most have little or no boot space so you are generally limited to what you can carry.
Hire, Beg & Borrow
It's always fantastic when a friend or family member offers to drive you or offers the use of their car for the day. There is however some consideration to be made before accepting this offer straight away; the same can be said when hiring from a company.
Looking at vintage car owners and hire companies, you will be surprised at the differing standards. Check the vehicle thoroughly, look at the quality of the paintwork, the interior for rips and quality of finish - this can often be a sign of bigger problems.
Most vintage car owners maintain and service their vehicles regularly to ensure that they have no mechanical issues on the day.
Unfortunately something can alway go wrong; do you have a back up plan?
Some legal points; if you are paying for the service, the company has to be licensed and the cars all have to go through a CoF (Certificate of Fitness) a more stringent requirement than the standard WoF. This also regulates the amount of passengers allowed per vehicle, this should be displayed in the vehicle in the form of a Certificate of Loading.
Be aware, it is illegal to use a non-licensed car if you are paying for the service.
The prices when hiring a vintage car can vary hugely as can the standard of service; the the best price is not necessarily the best option for you on your day.
Consider these questions...
Do they have a contingency plan?
Do they charge by the hour, or a daily rate?
How flexible are they on timings?
Will the car be exclusively yours for the day or will the be off to another job?
Can there be changes to the set route?
Does the chauffeur wear a uniform?
Will the driver greet you and open the doors?
Are ribbons included in the price?
Always check the reputation of any company or person before booking any car!
Remember, this is the vessel that needs to get you to your wedding on time.
A word from a specialist...
My advice is to check out the quality of the vehicle you are about to use for your big day and when you have made your choice, utilise the car to the best of your ability; for instance if you have them for the entire day, will they be willing to give other people rides?
Let's not forget the mother of the bride! It's often overlooked how the mother of the bride arrives at the venue; could there be discounts for a 2nd car? After all, what's better than one car at a vintage wedding? Multiple cars of course!
Like most wedding matters, planning and research is the key to choosing the right car and driver on your big day. A little forward planning and you will have a sensational vintage experience enhancing your big day, providing precious photos and memories to last a lifetime.
Best of luck!
